Alisson Becker insists Liverpool’s squad is not being distracted by the Mohamed Salah controversy and has backed under-pressure boss Arne Slot.
Salah caused a stir after the 3-3 draw at Leeds, claiming he’d been “thrown under the bus” and hinting at a possible exit.
He was then left out of the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Inter as the club responded to his comments.
Despite the fallout, Salah trained on Monday and took part in the warmdown session at the AXA Training Centre on Sunday following the Leeds match.
Alisson said: “After the interview I thought it would be really weird but it wasn’t.
“We know it’s a personal situation and we respect that. We played our last game on Saturday night and there’s not been too much time. Time together at training was to rest and recover and focus on a huge team.
“This isn’t a situation that makes us happy. On a personal level we all love Mo and he’s a hugely important player for the team. He is a wonderful human being and a spectacular footballer.
“The situation isn’t nice. We were a little bit caught by surprise but we know it’s a personal situation so we are leaving it to him and the club.
“It doesn’t matter what we think. What we want is for him and the club to reach an agreement which is in the best interests of him, the club and all of the playing staff.”
On whether he is still fully behind the head coach, Alison added: “Of course, yes.
“Why? The Premier League last season. Before Arne came in everyone was talking about the huge challenge of substituting Jurgen Klopp.
“It looks like everyone takes for granted what we achieved last season. That should be enough but we believe in his knowledge, his style of playing that he is capable of helping us to turn around this situation.
“My relationship with the manager is fine.”
