Liverpool receive potential boost in reported efforts to sign Lyon’s Rayan Cherki

Cherki is attracting interest from Liverpool

Liverpool have potentially been handed a boost in their pursuit of Lyon youngster Rayan Cherki, following the French club’s demotion to Ligue 2.

Reports on Friday from L’Equipe indicated that the Reds have shown interest in Cherki and have enquired about his availability.

Lyon currently value the 21-year-old at €25million (£20.8million). While the club would prefer to keep the influential player until at least next summer, they have not ruled out a potential January sale.

A new development may have increased Liverpool’s chances of landing Cherki.

According to ESPN, Lyon have been provisionally relegated from Ligue 1 at the end of the season due to “financial mismanagement.”

This demotion has also come with a transfer ban that will prevent them from bringing in new players during the January window.

The situation has reportedly drawn interest from other European clubs as well, with Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Fulham among those considering a move for the French talent.

Cherki’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026, positioning Lyon in a strong negotiating stance despite their financial troubles.

If Lyon’s provisional relegation is upheld, Liverpool could capitalize on the French club’s need to balance their finances by pursuing a January transfer for Rayan Cherki.
