Ruben Amorim confirms backroom staff at Manchester United

Amorim has chosen to begin his tenure with the trusted staff who contributed to his prior success in Portugal

Manchester United have officially announced the appointments of five key members to the backroom staff of their new manager, Ruben Amorim.

Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, and Paulo Barreira will all be joining Amorim at Old Trafford, following him from his former position at Sporting Lisbon.

These additions signal Amorim’s intention to build a familiar support system as he embarks on his new role in the Premier League.

Earlier reports this week confirmed that there would be no position for former Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy within Amorim’s staff.

Van Nistelrooy had stepped in as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, guiding the team to three wins and a draw in his four-match tenure.

Despite his successful stint, Amorim has chosen to begin his tenure with the trusted staff who contributed to his prior success in Portugal.

This shake-up is part of a broader effort by Manchester United to recalibrate and build a cohesive unit under Amorim’s leadership.

The new appointments will be crucial as the club seeks to regain stability and competitive form in the league.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record about his role a few years ago, Paulo Barreira said: “The physio is the bridge for the coach, who takes the information we are providing them with to decide on the management of the players.

“This way, we can help ensure that the players are in a suitable physical shape for the coach’s game model.

“We monitor their work on the pitch by using a GPS tracking advice a lot, we ask players a lot of questions daily to understand if they are ready to train, if they feel well and if they slept well.

“This information is then passed on to the technical team where they can deal with player management and contribute to having the team better physically adapted to what they want to do.

“That also helps to prevent an injury and reduce its frequency.”
