Liverpool ‘make enquiries’ for Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha

Dortmund are under no pressure to sell, with the midfielder still having four years remaining on his current deal.

Liverpool are among several clubs to have enquired about Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha following his impressive performances at the Club World Cup.

According to Sport Bild, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all made enquiries about the 25-year-old, who also has admirers elsewhere in Europe.

Reporter Maximilian Wessing wrote: “Real Madrid has him in its sights, too, as does FC Bayern.

“Director of Sport Max Eberl recently contacted the player’s camp to express that Nmecha is considered a highly interesting prospect.”

Felix Nmecha has an €80million (£69m) release clause in his contract, although it does not become active until next summer before dropping to €70m (£60.4m) in 2028.

Dortmund are under no pressure to sell, with the midfielder still having four years remaining on his current deal, although an offer in the region of €100m (£86.3m) could tempt the Bundesliga club.

The Germany international has earned widespread praise for his recent displays, with Gary Neville describing him as “outstanding” and Ian Wright saying that “he’s got everything.”

A significant attraction for Premier League clubs is that Nmecha qualifies as a homegrown player, having spent more than three years at Manchester City before turning 21.

Capable of playing as both a defensive and central midfielder, Felix Nmecha impressed in the Bundesliga last season and underlined his quality in Germany’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast, winning 10 duels and eight tackles while also creating two big chances.

Liverpool would face stiff competition for his signature, but their interest suggests they remain keen to strengthen their midfield options this summer.
