Liverpool name 21-man travelling squad for RB Leipzig clash

Liverpool travel to Germany to take on Leipzig on Wednesday night

Liverpool have announced a 21-man squad for their Champions League group stage clash against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

The Reds departed from John Lennon Airport on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the matchday three fixture.

Arne Slot will be without key players Alisson, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, and Diogo Jota for the trip to Germany, as they make up the Reds’ injury list.

While Jota was the only one involved in the match against Chelsea over the weekend, a heavy blow to his ribcage has cast doubt on his availability for Wednesday’s game.

His absence from Tuesday’s training session suggested that his participation is unlikely.

With Chiesa and Jota unavailable, it’s likely that Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez will lead the attack against Leipzig.

This would leave Cody Gakpo as the only senior attacking option on the bench, which is far from ideal.

Fortunately, there were no unexpected surprises in the travelling squad.

Alexis Mac Allister appears fit and ready to return to the starting lineup, although it wouldn’t be surprising if he were among the more than five changes to the starting XI.

Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas will also be vying for game time, along with Jarell Quansah, who could provide Ibrahima Konate with a much-needed rest in central defence – avoiding any injuries at the back is crucial.

The Reds head into the match with a perfect record in the competition, in stark contrast to Leipzig, who have yet to earn a point after two games.

Later this evening, manager Arne Slot and a player from the squad will hold a press conference to preview the upcoming contest.

Liverpool travelling squad: Gomez, Endo, Van Dijk, Konate, Diaz, Szoboszlai, Nunez, Mac Allister, Salah, Jones, Gakpo, Tsimikas, Robertson, Gravenberch, Jaros, Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Morton, Davies, Nyoni.
