Didi Hamann is confident that Liverpool stands a “great chance” of winning the Premier League this season under Arne Slot.
Despite doubts from many regarding Liverpool’s title challenge following Jurgen Klopp’s departure this summer, Slot has made an impressive start at Anfield, with the team currently sitting at the top of the table.
Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Sunday, sending a strong message to their rivals.
Meanwhile, Arsenal, often viewed as Manchester City’s main competitors for the title, faltered with a defeat away at Bournemouth, compounded by another red card.
While it’s still early in Slot’s tenure, Hamann is already convinced that Liverpool is poised for a title challenge under their new head coach.
“I think Liverpool have shown they can win the Premier League, apart from the Nottingham Forest game, they’ve been brilliant,” Didi Hamann told FlashScore.
“The team functions well, everyone is happy and psychologically, and the win against Chelsea is huge.
It was an even game but Liverpool came out on top, which is a massive sign of intent.
“Manchester City have lost Rodri, he can’t be replaced and Arsenal dropped points, I think Liverpool have a great chance to win the Premier League and go far in the Champions League.”
Liverpool were expected to face a transitional season under manager Slot, especially after coming close to challenging Manchester City for the title in recent years under Klopp.
However, this hasn’t deterred Hamann, who not only reaffirmed his predictions but also forecasted the top four teams come May.
Despite Arsenal’s resurgence under Mikel Arteta, Hamann believes they will finish behind Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table.
He also predicts that their bitter rivals, Tottenham, will secure fourth place.
Hamann has expressed concerns about Arsenal, particularly regarding Kai Havertz, who he sees as their first-choice No. 9 but not as a traditional striker.
He believes this lack of a dedicated center forward could ultimately haunt them, especially after they chose not to sign one during the summer transfer window.
He added: “I’ve always thought that Kai Havertz is not a striker, he needs to play deeper but Arsenal have Martin Odegaard there.
“Havertz is a hugely talented player, his numbers are a lot better than what most people would predict.
“But, I think he has a lot more to offer.
“I hope he can come out of his shell, he can take games by the scruff of the neck.
“I don’t know why Havertz is not playing behind Gabriel Jesus as a striker while Odegaard is injured.
“I think the Arsenal team could be much better, a big reason why they won’t win the league this season is because they did not buy a centre forward in the summer.”
