Liverpool receive injury boost as Kostas Tsimikas returns to training

The Greek defender has stepped up his recovery after sustaining an injury in late November

Liverpool have received a further injury boost with Kostas Tsimikas spotted training with the ball at the AXA Training Centre this afternoon.

The Greek defender has stepped up his recovery after sustaining an injury in late November.

Just 11 days ago, Tsimikas was seen on crutches and wearing a protective boot on his right foot during Liverpool’s match against Manchester City at Anfield.

Although the 28-year-old was working away from the main group, it will be encouraging for manager Arne Slot that Tsimikas is now able to train with the ball as he nears full fitness.

Kostas Tsimikas has racked up 11 appearances for Liverpool this season, competing with Andy Robertson for the left-back spot.

Since Tsimikas’ injury, Robertson has played every game, but his teammate’s return will allow Slot to give the 30-year-old a breather during the busy festive period.

Liverpool were also boosted by the returns of Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa, who rejoined the full squad after recovering from respective injuries.

Jota has been sidelined since suffering an upper-body injury in a clash with Tosin Adarabioyo during Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in October.

Meanwhile, Chiesa has been regaining match fitness after a series of injuries following his £10m move from Juventus in August.

Both players are now in contention to add depth to Liverpool’s attack as they look to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League and secure a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Liverpool will host Fulham at Anfield on Saturday before travelling to Southampton for a League Cup quarter-final clash on Tuesday evening.
