Liverpool stance on Harvey Elliott revealed

Head coach Arne Slot is keen to keep the England Under-21 star for the season ahead

Liverpool are determined to resist any late attempts to sign Harvey Elliott before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Head coach Arne Slot is keen to keep the England Under-21 star for the season ahead.

West Ham United were reported to have shown interest earlier this summer, while the Premier League champions have also been linked to RB Leipzig over a potential deal connected to Xavi Simons’ future.

The Dutch winger is now on the verge of a £51m move from Leipzig to Tottenham Hotspur, which could spark further activity from the Bundesliga club as they seek a replacement for the 22-year-old.

However, the Liverpool Echo understands that Liverpool are planning for the campaign with Elliott as a key part of their squad.

Any potential sale would need to represent a substantial profit on the player, who joined the Reds for a minimal fee of around £4m from Fulham in 2019 via a tribunal.

With recent high-profile transfers such as Tyler Dibling (to Everton), Jacob Ramsey (to Newcastle United), Matheus Fernandes (to West Ham United), and Omari Hutchinson (to Nottingham Forest) all moving for fees between £38m and £42m, Liverpool believe Elliott’s true value far exceeds current market rates.

Their stance is further supported by Newcastle United’s impending £65m deal for Nick Woltemade, the Germany Under-21 international who faced Elliott and his England teammates in the Euros final on June 30.

Woltemade finished as runner-up to Elliott for Player of the Tournament in Bratislava, and Reds head coach Slot is determined to keep the versatile midfielder at Anfield beyond Monday night’s September 1 transfer deadline.
