Liverpool striker Jayden Danns out for rest of year

Liverpool teenager Jayden Danns is unlikely to feature again this year following a significant injury setback.

The 19-year-old striker suffered a hamstring injury while taking a free-kick for the Reds’ under-21 side in their Premier League 2 clash with Ipswich Town last month.

Subsequent scans revealed the seriousness of the injury, with Danns now expected to be sidelined for an extended period as he recovers.

“It could be a couple of months,” Liverpool U21 coach Rob Page told the Liverpool Echo. “It’s not going to be a quick fix.

“It’s a setback for him, but Dannsy is very positive about everything in life, especially football. If anybody can get through this, it’s him, without a doubt.

“He has the full support of the medical team, myself, and the staff. He’ll get through it.”

This injury marks another blow for the young forward, who had a potential loan move to Sunderland in the second half of last season canceled due to a back problem.

Danns had regained full fitness over the summer and even featured from the bench in Liverpool’s League Cup victory over Southampton just days before sustaining this latest setback.

Jayden Danns made his senior Liverpool debut in February 2024 and has since scored three goals in 10 appearances, featuring across all major competitions, including the League Cup final triumph over Chelsea at Wembley last year.
