Liverpool to step up contract negotiations with Mohamed Salah during November international break
Salah is seeking a new two-year deal
Liverpool are reportedly set to ramp up contract negotiations with Mohamed Salah during the upcoming international break after the forward was left out of the latest Egypt squad.
With the Pharaohs already qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Salah has been omitted from Hossam Hassan’s squad for their upcoming matches against Cape Verde and Botswana.
The 32-year-old continued his outstanding form for Liverpool in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, registering both his tenth goal and tenth assist of the season.
With Manchester City’s loss to Brighton earlier in the day, Liverpool’s victory moved them five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Salah’s contributions have been pivotal as the Reds also sit atop their Champions League group and have advanced to the League Cup quarter-finals.
Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have enjoyed an impressive start, winning 15 of their first 17 matches since the Dutchman succeeded Jurgen Klopp last summer.
However, despite this strong form, uncertainty surrounds the future of Salah, as well as club captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.
All three players are out of contract next summer and will be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs starting January 1.
While Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with Real Madrid, Van Dijk recently confirmed that contract discussions have formally begun between the club and his representatives.
According to journalist Ismael Mahmoud, negotiations with Mohamed Salah are expected to follow suit.
He reports that Salah is seeking a new two-year deal and suggests that the international break will be a critical period for the club to begin serious renewal talks with the Egyptian forward.
Mahmoud said: “I’ve been told that Mohamed Salah staying at Liverpool during the international break will be very important for the club to begin serious contract renewal negotiations.
“Been told too that Liverpool knows Salah is asking for a new two-year contract.”
