Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that a return to management could be possible in the future, despite insisting he has no immediate plans to return to the dugout.
Klopp stepped down at Anfield in the summer of 2024 after nearly nine years in charge and was replaced by Arne Slot, who went on to win the Premier League title in his debut season.
Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has taken up a role as Red Bull’s global head of football, overseeing clubs including RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls.
The German has been regularly linked with a return to management, with reports suggesting the Real Madrid job could appeal to the 58-year-old. However, Jurgen Klopp has dismissed the rumours, describing talk of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu as “nonsense.”
“If Real Madrid had called, we would have heard about it by now,” Jurgen Klopp told reporters at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation being held in Munich. “But that’s all nonsense. They didn’t even call, not once. They didn’t even call my agent.”
He added: “I’ve said that a thousand times already, but of course I’m not thinking about it at all right now. There’s no reason to, thankfully.
“And as for the future, I’m not quite finished as a coach yet. So who knows what might come up in the next few years. But there are absolutely no plans in that regard.”
The past few weeks have also seen speculation over Klopp’s future at Red Bull and whether a departure could be on the cards, despite the former Liverpool boss only taking up the role in January last year.
Jurgen Klopp, however, has dismissed the rumours. “The same idiots wrote that. The less someone knows about football, the more they think: I should be at the various locations even more often than I am.
“The colleague from the ‘Salzburger Nachrichten’ who wrote that has absolutely no clue. I’m not thinking of throwing in the towel.”
