Luis Diaz has reportedly told Liverpool of his intention to leave the club this summer and has “made it clear” that he wishes to join Bayern Munich if a deal can be agreed.
Diaz is still expected to travel with Liverpool on their pre-season tour of Asia next week, but significant doubts remain over his future beyond the summer.
He has attracted interest from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with Bayern now appearing to be his most likely destination after submitting their first bid.
The initial offer, valued at €67.5million (£58.6m), was rejected by Liverpool.
However, the Bundesliga champions are reportedly preparing a new proposal.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote on X that Bayern are “set to bid again very soon,” while Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg revealed that Diaz has “made it clear to Liverpool that he would like to join Bayern if possible.”
Plettenberg added, “There is no full agreement between Bayern and Diaz yet. However, personal terms are not an issue, with a potential contract running at least until 2029.”
He concluded, “It is now up to Bayern to reach an agreement with Liverpool.”
Liverpool have maintained a firm stance that Diaz is not for sale this summer, having immediately rejected offers from both Bayern and Barcelona.
That said, it has been suggested that a fee around €100million (£86.7m) could persuade Liverpool to sell, as it would meet their internal valuation.
Bayern’s most expensive signing to date is Harry Kane, who joined from Tottenham in 2023 for an initial £100million, with the total package reportedly rising to £120million including add-ons.
Their second-biggest transfer was the £68 million acquisition of Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
At 28, Diaz is seen as approaching the final chance to secure a major contract. If he does sign for Bayern, it is expected that he would be brought in to make an immediate impact rather than as a long-term project.
Bayern’s pursuit may resemble their recent signing of 30-year-old Kane, though much will depend on whether Liverpool are willing to consider a sale.
