Manchester City’s Jack Grealish sends message to Curtis Jones after scoring on England debut

England secured a 3-0 victory against Greece in the Nations League, with Jones playing a pivotal role

Manchester City’s Jack Grealish has reached out to Liverpool’s Curtis Jones with a congratulatory message following the latter’s standout performance on his senior international debut.

On Thursday night, England secured a 3-0 victory against Greece in the Nations League, with Jones playing a pivotal role.

Interim manager Lee Carsley included Jones in the starting lineup at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, marking the Liverpool midfielder’s first senior cap.

Curtis Jones made the most of the opportunity, completing the full 90 minutes and capping off an impressive display by scoring England’s third and final goal to seal the win.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for the visitors, and an own goal from Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos doubled England’s lead.

Jones’s late goal added a finishing touch, solidifying a comfortable result for the Three Lions.

After the match, Grealish, who had been withdrawn from the England squad prior to the trip to Athens, took to Instagram to share a message of praise for Jones.

The Manchester City winger commended Jones for his impactful performance, celebrating his contribution to the team’s success.

England now turn their focus to their final Nations League group match against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday evening, where they will aim to carry forward their winning momentum.

“Well done boys,” wrote Grealish on Instagram. “Top performance and especially Curtis Jones, what a player [clapping hands emoji] [blue heart emoji]”

When asked about making an impression on the UEFA Nations League contest, Jones told ITV via Liverpoolfc.com: “I tried, I tried! The lads around helped as well.

“I just went out there and I was playing free and I had a smile on my face. I was enjoying it and I’m happy I came away with a goal as well.

“When you’ve got a team like ours I can go high and I can come low and I can get on the ball and I can play.

“There’s lads there to help and there’s also lads who said I can go [forward] as well. Jude [Bellingham] stayed back, so I saw I had a chance to go and lucky enough I scored.”
