Marcus Rashford must “fight” to get his Manchester United place back – Ruben Amorim

Amorim's decision to drop Rashford has fuelled speculation that the club might be open to selling the 27-year-old in the January transfer window

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a stern challenge to Marcus Rashford, urging the forward to “fight” for his place in the starting XI at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s decision to drop Rashford has fuelled speculation that the club might be open to selling the 27-year-old in the January transfer window.

Questions about Rashford’s future surfaced following United’s victory over Manchester City, where the forward was left out of the lineup.

Addressing the situation post-match, Amorim emphasized the competitive nature of the squad, stating that Rashford must demonstrate his worth to regain his position.

The Portuguese manager also referenced the ongoing restructuring at the club under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, highlighting how cost-cutting measures have led to several staff changes.

The situation places added pressure on Rashford to reclaim his form and secure his future at Manchester United amid growing uncertainty.

Amorim told reporters: “You understand for so long we try something with Rash, it doesn’t work.

“Let’s continue to do the same thing or try something different? It’s as simple as that.

“They have to work hard. Today they trained really hard. It was not a disciplinary thing.

“Next week, next game, new life…

“When we want to change a lot of things, when people in the club are losing their jobs, they have to fight for their place in the team.”

Marcus Rashford is one of Manchester United’s highest earners, reportedly on a weekly wage of £350,000.

Recent reports suggest the club could consider offloading his substantial salary as early as January, with the Saudi Pro League emerging as a potential destination for the forward.

Attention now turns to manager Rúben Amorim’s next team selection to see if Rashford can work his way back into the squad.

The Red Devils face a crucial test on Thursday in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against Tottenham.
