Marcus Rashford offered escape route from Manchester United by Saudi Pro League
Rashford looks certain to end his two-decade spell at Old Trafford in January
Marcus Rashford could be offered a fresh start by the Saudi Pro League as the forward reportedly becomes one of their “elite targets.”
The 27-year-old looks set to end his two-decade-long association with Manchester United following his bombshell interview with journalist Henry Winter, where he revealed his desire for a “new challenge.”
Rashford was dropped from the squad ahead of United’s 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester City on Sunday, further fueling speculation about his future under manager Ruben Amorim.
Despite Amorim’s insistence that he wants Rashford to stay and embrace the “biggest challenge” at Old Trafford, the England international’s form has declined sharply, leaving his future uncertain.
According to The Telegraph, Saudi football authorities are keen to capitalise on the situation, with top clubs Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, and Al-Ahli all monitoring Rashford, alongside interest from Al-Qadsiah.
A potential move to Saudi Arabia would place Rashford among global stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Neymar, and N’Golo Kanté.
However, the Pro League’s foreign player quota – currently exceeded by Al-Ittihad – could complicate any deal.
While Rashford reportedly prefers a move to a European club, his £40 million transfer fee and £325,000-a-week wages might deter potential suitors.
The financial allure of the Saudi Pro League could still sway his decision.
A summer transfer appears more likely, given the Pro League’s winter break, though a loan to a European club with an option to buy is seen as the most feasible January solution.
The report also notes Rashford’s absence from the squad traveling to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, while teammate Alejandro Garnacho – also omitted from the City clash – was included.
Amorim is said to be frustrated by Rashford’s public statements and believes the matter should have been handled privately.
As the January transfer window approaches, Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains under intense scrutiny.
