Liverpool could be forced into a move for Marc Guehi after he emerged as a leading target for Manchester City.
The Times report City have placed the defender on a shortlist ahead of planned defensive changes next summer.
Guehi, who is out of contract at the end of the season, nearly joined Liverpool in September before a £35m deal collapsed late on deadline day.
The Reds remain interested but face competition, with Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid also monitoring the England international.
Asked about the failed move to Liverpool earlier this month, Marc Guehi said: “I think everyone has this perception that it was difficult. Actually, it wasn’t difficult. It wasn’t difficult at all. Because when you’re focused on what’s the most important thing, it becomes easy.
“I know that God has a plan for me, and whatever that plan will be, will come into fruition at some point. But the goal and the focus has always been playing football and trying to do the best I can. And fortunately for me, I get to to it with people like Max (Lacroix).”
Before Guehi added: “We have faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s about exercising our faith. And as he said, even at the beginning, it was tough, but thankfully we continue doing that type of stuff. Continue praying. Continued having that fellowship with each other and the results came.
“But it’s not even about that. It’s about just being together with your brothers, and showing that faith and showing that we want to play for his glory.
“And given all the glory and everything that we do. Whether the things are going well or not, doing the same. So it’s important that we just carry on doing what we are doing.”
