Mohamed Salah shared a cryptic message regarding his future at Liverpool, stating, “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
In a social media post on Sunday, the Reds star expressed the ambition within the Anfield camp to mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title.
Salah scored a stunning second goal on Saturday as Liverpool came from behind to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at Anfield, putting them two points ahead of Manchester City, who suffered a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.
The day’s results also saw Arsenal fall 1-0 to Newcastle United.
With this goal, Mohamed Salah surpassed Robbie Fowler, moving into eighth place on the Premier League’s all-time scoring list with 165 goals.
However, with just over six months remaining on his current contract, it remains uncertain how high he will climb in the rankings.
The 32-year-old can negotiate with clubs outside England about a pre-contract agreement in under two months.
In his Instagram message, Salah highlighted the significance of being at the top of the table, even at this early stage of the season.
“Top of the table is where this club belongs.” wrote Salah.
“Nothing less. All teams win matches but there’s only 1 champion in the end.
“That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night.
“No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
Mohamed Salah is expected to start on Tuesday night when Liverpool faces Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the revamped Champions League.
The Reds aim to secure their fourth consecutive win in the newly formatted European competition.
