New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim eyes move for three Sporting players

Amorim is set to take over on November 11 after Man United agreed a compensation package with Sporting

Incoming Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly planning to bring three players from Sporting Lisbon to Old Trafford next summer as he prepares to take over from Erik ten Hag later this month.

Amorim is set to officially assume his role on November 11 after United agreed on a compensation package with Sporting valued at around £10million.

However, concerns have emerged within the club that he may seek to recruit some of Sporting’s star players.

Although the 39-year-old has assured Sporting that he will not target any of their players during the January transfer window, reports from The Sun suggest that a trio of his former charges could make the move to Manchester at the end of the season.

According to the report, Amorim could initiate a £175million spending spree that includes defender Goncalo Inacio, valued at £50million, midfielder Morten Hjulmand, rated at £40million, and striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is estimated to be worth around £84million.

Gyokeres has been prominently linked with United, as well as Arsenal, in recent months, and his connection to Old Trafford is likely to grow stronger with Amorim’s impending arrival.

Last season, the Swedish forward was among the most prolific scorers in the world, netting 43 goals in 50 appearances.

This season, he has already scored 16 times in just 15 games.

Previously with Brighton, where he made only eight appearances, Gyokeres found his footing at Coventry City, where he scored 43 goals between 2021 and 2023.

Although Ruben Amorim has been questioned about the possibility of bringing Gyokeres to Man United, he has dismissed such reports, reaffirming his commitment not to raid Sporting for signings in January.

Amorim’s first match in charge will be away against Ipswich Town on November 24.

“I’m not going to get any players from Sporting in January,” he conceded.

“Gyokeres costs €100million and it’s very difficult.”

The player addressed the speculation, neither fully confirming nor denying the rumours, while insisting that he is happy at the club.

He said: “Going with Amorim to Manchester United?

“I don’t know, I’m here.

“I really like being here, it’s not something I think about.

“I’m enjoying it here. I’m sad about him leaving.

“We wish him all the best.”
