Mohamed Salah ‘increasingly likely’ to leave Liverpool this summer

Salah returned to the Liverpool starting lineup after a major fallout with Slot in December

Mohamed Salah is reportedly “increasingly likely” to leave Liverpool during the upcoming summer transfer window, despite repairing his relationship with manager Arne Slot.

Salah returned to the Liverpool starting lineup after a major fallout with Slot in December. At the time, the Egyptian forward claimed the manager had “thrown me under the bus” and that there was “no relationship” between them.

However, tensions have since eased, and Salah is once again a regular presence on the right wing.

Despite the reconciliation, uncertainty over his future remains. Although Salah is under contract until June 2027, growing transfer interest could lead to a summer departure. Saudi Arabian clubs have consistently monitored his situation, and a potential move to Major League Soccer has also been suggested.

The 33-year-old has recorded seven goals and eight assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season –  a return below his typically high standards. He is currently enduring a nine-game Premier League goal drought.

According to BBC Sport, an exit is now “increasingly likely,” partly because Liverpool may prefer to sell him before the final years of his contract reduce his transfer value.

Mohamed Salah is the club’s highest-paid player, earning approximately £400,000 per week. With his output declining compared to previous seasons, he is no longer viewed as untouchable within the squad.

Interest from Saudi Arabia remains strong, with Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisah, and Neom reportedly keen on securing his signature. A league source stated in January that a move appears “inevitable” given the financial and sporting factors involved.

Ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with West Ham, Slot defended Salah’s recent dip in form during his press conference.

“He set his own standards, and those are so, so high that the moment he doesn’t score for a few games, people are immediately surprised,” Slot said. “That’s probably the biggest compliment he can get.”

“We are used to Mo scoring a lot of goals, and at this moment maybe that’s the biggest difference in his performances. But even during my time here, this has happened before. I don’t know if it was nine games in a row, but I’ve faced similar questions when he didn’t score for three or five games. In the end, he always starts scoring again.”

“That’s the challenge now — for him and for us — to make sure he starts scoring again. He’s not the only attacker who isn’t scoring as much as we’re used to. Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo haven’t scored many recently either. It’s a team issue that we need to improve.”
