Mohamed Salah makes worrying Liverpool contract claim

Salah’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season

A video of Mohamed Salah has surfaced on social media in which the Liverpool forward expresses continued uncertainty regarding his long-term future at the club.

The footage, recorded earlier this month, shows the Egypt captain once again suggesting that he is unsure about what will happen next in the ongoing impasse over his contract at Anfield.

Salah’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, allowing him to speak to clubs outside of England starting January 1 about potentially joining them on a free transfer in the summer.

It is understood that the club’s top scorer is eager to remain at the club he has represented with distinction since his move from Roma in 2017.

However, no significant progress has been made regarding the 32-year-old’s contract renewal.

In the same conversation that was initially made public earlier this month as part of a competition organised by Visa and El Mashrek, Salah answered questions from supporters via Zoom and, as expected, was asked about his future at Liverpool.

A video of this interaction was posted on Yallakora’s Instagram page on December 8, where it garnered attention from the platform’s two million followers.

In the clip, Salah said: “I don’t know yet.

“My contract expires at the end of the year, so I still don’t know what will happen. I’ll look at my options, but I haven’t made a decision yet.”

It was reported earlier this month that Mohamed Salah has been offered fresh terms by Liverpool, although no formal agreement has been reached between the player and the club.

Speaking to several publications after Liverpool’s 3-2 win at Southampton on November 24, Salah said: “Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club, [so] I’m probably more out than in.

“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.

“I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.

“Of course [no offer is disappointing], yeah. I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed but we will see.

“I’m very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic. I’m just trying to enjoy my football and I will play at the top level as long as possible.

“I’m just doing my best because this is who I am and I try to give it all for myself and for the club. We will see what happens next.”
