Friedkin Group completes Everton takeover ending turbulent tenure of Farhad Moshiri

Friedkin, whose net worth is estimated at £6.16 billion by Forbes, is set to be proposed as the chairman of Everton's board

The Friedkin Group has finalised its takeover of Everton, bringing an end to Farhad Moshiri’s turbulent tenure as the club’s majority owner.

The deal, which secures 99.5% of the club, is reportedly valued at over £400million.

This acquisition makes Everton the 10th Premier League club to come under majority American ownership.

An agreement between The Friedkin Group and Moshiri was reached on September 23, pending regulatory approval.

With the Premier League granting its final approval, the takeover has now been officially completed.

Based in Texas, The Friedkin Group is chaired by Dan Friedkin, who also owns Italian Serie A club AS Roma.

Friedkin, whose net worth is estimated at £6.16 billion by Forbes, is set to be proposed as the chairman of Everton’s board.

Marc Watts, the president of The Friedkin Group, will take on the role of executive chairman, overseeing the club’s day-to-day operations.

Friedkin said in an open letter: “I take immense pride in welcoming one of England’s most historic football clubs to our global family, the Friedkin Group. Everton represents a proud legacy, and we are honoured to become custodians of this great institution.

“Whilst we are new to the club, we fully understand the vital role Everton plays in local culture, history, and the lives of Evertonians here and around the world.

“We are deeply committed to honouring this legacy while contributing positively to the community, economy, and people of this remarkable city.”

British-Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri first acquired a 49.9% stake in Everton in 2016, gradually increasing his ownership to 94.1% by 2022.

Everton, a club that has maintained its top-flight status since the 1953–54 season, has struggled in recent years.

They have finished in the bottom half of the Premier League for the past three seasons, placing 16th, 17th, and 15th, respectively. This season, they remain in a precarious position, sitting 16th in the table.

Sean Dyche’s side will face second-placed Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday, with representatives of The Friedkin Group expected to attend the match.
