Newcastle United take firm stance on Alexander Isak after explosive statement
Newcastle were still pushing to bring in two forwards

Newcastle United have made it clear they have no intention of allowing Alexander Isak to leave following his bombshell statement accusing the club of “broken promises.”
The Magpies had explored striking reinforcements throughout the summer and, had they secured one of their top targets, were prepared to consider a sale to Liverpool in recognition of Isak’s desire to move on.
However, Tuesday night brought a decisive change in tone.
The club’s hierarchy now insists Isak will remain on Tyneside, believing his public outburst has left them with no option but to stand firm.
Behind the scenes, their stance has hardened significantly.
As recently as the weekend, Newcastle were still pushing to bring in two forwards, a move that would have opened the door for renewed talks with Liverpool.
But with pursuits of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko all falling short, the prospect of signing replacements has proven increasingly unlikely.
That leaves Newcastle in a position where Isak is expected to stay, despite the striker’s declaration that he will not play for the club again.
On Tuesday night, the 25-year-old broke his silence, saying trust had been lost and that a change was “best for all parties.”
Newcastle swiftly responded with a statement of their own, stressing they had listened to his concerns and attempted to facilitate his wishes.
The club added that they now expect him to reintegrate into the squad.
“We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening,’ the club said.
“We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.
“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.
“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met.
“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
Alexander Isak and his representatives were left furious last summer when new sporting director Paul Mitchell informed them he would not be receiving a new contract.
Under the previous ownership, Amanda Staveley had held talks in the spring about improved terms, believing the striker was both deserving of and due a pay rise.
That reversal created a sense of resentment, and by the end of last season, Isak had made up his mind.
He informed the club of his intention to leave, signalling his desire for a new challenge elsewhere.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken,’ he wrote on his Instagram account.
“That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
