Pep Guardiola rules Manchester City pair out of Champions League tie

Manchester City take on Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday

Pep Guardiola does not anticipate having Kyle Walker or Kevin De Bruyne available for Manchester City’s Champions League match against Sparta Prague on Wednesday.

Man City secured a dramatic victory over Wolves on Sunday, with an injury-time goal from John Stones initially ruled out.

However, referee Chris Kavanagh overturned the assistant’s decision after reviewing the footage.

Despite missing four first-team players, including De Bruyne and Walker, the Blues managed to secure the win.

De Bruyne has been sidelined since suffering a thigh injury during the Champions League draw against Inter in September.

He returned to light training a few days ago but was absent from the match at Molineux.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that he does not expect De Bruyne to be fit for the upcoming game against Sparta Prague.

Similarly, Walker, who participated in the international break with England, returned with an issue and was described as “not fully fit” for the Wolves match.

“I don’t think they will be ready [for midweek],” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“We have a few days training but I don’t think so.”

Man City will be without long-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb for the match.

However, Nathan Ake has returned to the squad after a month out, and Manu Akanji has been deemed fit following a fitness check.

The Blues aim to secure their second win in three Champions League games to enhance their position in the newly revamped competition
