Real Madrid monitoring Manchester City star
Real Madrid are keen bolstering their squad for next season
Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing Manchester City midfielder Rodri to add experience to their youthful midfield lineup next season.
According to Spanish outlet AS, the club is keen on revitalising their midfield with Rodri, hoping his presence will provide a crucial balance of skill and stability.
Despite being reigning Champions League and La Liga titleholders, Real Madrid’s start to the season has been far from ideal.
The team has struggled following the retirement of Toni Kroos, suffering a heavy 4-0 home loss to Barcelona last weekend and a surprise 1-0 defeat to Lille in the Champions League.
Much was expected from Madrid’s current midfield core, which includes Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelien Tchouameni.
However, they have yet to assert themselves consistently as a unit.
Rodri, crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner in Paris earlier this week, could provide the cohesion and experience Madrid seeks.
Rodri is widely regarded as the best in the world in his position.
His performances for Manchester City have played a significant role in their recent dominance of English football.
The 28-year-old was also instrumental in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, marking the nation’s first major international trophy in over a decade.
While Man City are eager to secure his long-term commitment, Rodri has been hesitant to renew his contract due to the ongoing investigation into the club’s potential FFP violations, with the club facing 115 charges.
Rodri, born in Villanueva de la Cañada – a town just 40 kilometers from the Santiago Bernabéu – previously played for Real Madrid’s local rivals Atletico Madrid before joining Man City.
Madrid, determined to bounce back from their Clasico loss, will take on 20th-placed Valencia at the Mestalla this week.
Unfortunately, Rodri’s return to the Bernabéu may have to wait.
He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during City’s match against Arsenal in September, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
