Ruben Amorim gives fresh update on Manchester United move

Amorim is expected to move to Old Trafford after the international break

Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he will not discuss any matters related to Manchester United until after Sporting Lisbon’s match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday.

Negotiations are reported to have reached a conclusion last night, with the Red Devils agreeing to pay the €10million (£8.3million) release clause for coach Amorim, along with compensation for the three coaches he wishes to bring with him.

The 39-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after managers, having won the Primeira Liga twice in the past three years.

The Man United hierarchy now aims for Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday following a dismal start to the season.

In recent years, Liverpool, Chelsea, and West Ham have all considered appointing Amorim but ultimately opted against it.

During this time, the Sporting boss has enhanced his reputation and received glowing endorsements from figures in the football community, leading Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his associates to feel confident that Amorim can turn United’s challenging season around.

However, the Red Devils will need to exercise patience, as Amorim’s first game is not scheduled until after the international break next month.

“I’ll leave it until the end of the game. I’ll talk about all these issues,” Amorim said.

“Everything will be clearer. Talking now is just another destabilization for the squad. The focus at the moment is Estrela da Amadora.”

“It’s a negotiation between two clubs,” he added. “It’s never easy.

“Even with the clauses, it’s never easy, they have to talk, and we will have clarification after the game, It will be very clear. So it’s one more day, after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made.”

Asked what he liked about the Premier League, he replied with a smile: “Everything.”

In the meantime, caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City, overseeing an impressive 5-2 victory that secured a trip to Tottenham in the quarter-finals.

It is believed that Amorim’s first game in charge of Manchester United is scheduled for away against Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24.

In that match, the Red Devils will face former coach Kieran McKenna at Portman Road, looking to build on any momentum gained under Van Nistelrooy.

After the Chelsea match, Van Nistelrooy’s squad will compete against Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki next Thursday in the Europa League, where they are still seeking their first victory.
