Why Real Madrid are open to selling Aurelien Tchouameni
The 24-year-old is no longer considered untouchable by the club
Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling their star defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
According to Relevo, doubts are beginning to emerge at the Santiago Bernabeu regarding Tchouameni’s recent performances, and the 24-year-old is no longer considered untouchable by the club.
Madrid signed Tchouameni from AS Monaco in 2022 for €80million, fending off interest from Liverpool in the process.
He impressed during his second season, forming a key midfield partnership with Toni Kroos, which contributed to Madrid’s success.
However, with Kroos retiring this summer, Tchouameni has found himself with a heavier workload in midfield.
In a recent display of confidence, Tchouameni was rested against Borussia Dortmund to ensure his fitness for El Clásico.
Yet, his performance against Barcelona fell short, as he struggled against Pedri and Marc Casado before becoming the first player subbed off for Los Blancos.
The decision highlights a growing sense within Madrid’s ranks that Tchouameni may not be meeting the club’s expectations.
According to Relevo, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the club’s leadership are keen to shift their focus to Eduardo Camavinga as a potential anchor in midfield.
However, manager Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff reportedly have reservations, citing a lack of tactical discipline in Camavinga’s play for the role.
Relevo also notes that Madrid are now considering Manchester City’s Rodri as an option at the base of their midfield.
The Spain international was widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world prior to his recent ACL and meniscus injury, which will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Liverpool, who originally missed out on Tchouameni when he opted for Madrid over Anfield, may still be in the market for a defensive midfielder and could emerge as a suitor should Madrid decide to place him on the market.
