“That’s the way to lose” – Jouri Tielemans

Jouri Tielemans believes Aston Villa gave their all in the defeat at a tough place like Anfield

Aston Villa midfielder Jouri Tielemans believes he and his teammates gave their all in their 0-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday night in the Premier League.

The former Leicester City man said he was proud of his team, despite not getting the result they wanted. He felt they played well and were in the game for large spells despite trailing the hosts.

Speaking to TNT Sports’ Jules Breach in his post-match interview, the disappointed but positive Tielemans said, “To be fair, I think we put up a fight today so obviously the mood is negative because we lost but I think that’s the way to lose.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get any points here, but it’s a tough place to come to, but I think we’ve got to pick ourselves up and get some results when we get back from the international break.

Aston Villa had three quick succession opportunities just before half-time, but they failed to convert any of those into a goal. However, Tielemans felt anything could have happened if they had scored.

“You never know how the game goes if you score a goal. I felt like we were in the game even when we conceded that second goal, unfortunately. So it’s a pity.

We’ve got to analyze that. They’re a good side. They’ve got quality and they pick up on our mistakes, and they were clinical which we weren’t.”

The result tonight means Aston Villa has lost their last four matches. They lost by a goal to nil against Club Brugge in Belgium in the Champions League on Wednesday. Before that, they were thumped 4-1 by Sours at the Tottenham Stadium, after losing at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup 3 days prior.

Asked how they can end the losing streak, Tielemans said “We’ve got to start scoring goals and get the confidence back up and a good way to do that will be at home in our next game.”
