Liverpool have decided to withdraw from negotiations for Alexander Isak after Newcastle United rejected their £110million bid, according to BBC Sport.
The offer, which did not include any add-ons, was turned down by the Magpies, prompting the Reds to walk away from the deal.
Manager Arne Slot is keen to add the striker to his squad ahead of the new season.
The 25-year-old joined Newcastle in 2022 from Real Sociedad in a £60million transfer.
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe said earlier this week that the club has yet to receive any bids for the striker.
“[Isak] is still our player. He’s contracted to us,” he said.
“We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.
“We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club.”
Isak was left out of Newcastle’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia as he seeks to explore a move away, despite the club qualifying for this season’s Champions League.
He is currently training alone at his former club, Real Sociedad, amid ongoing uncertainty about his future.
Isak was a standout performer for the Magpies last season, scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Liverpool have already made several additions during a busy summer of spending, signing Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Armin Pecsi for a combined total of around £265million, excluding add-ons.
At the same time, key players Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have left the club for an initial combined fee of £115million.
