West Ham considering former Juventus boss Max Allegri as possible replacement for Julen Lopetegui
Julen Lopetegui, who succeeded David Moyes during the summer, has struggled to win over the West Ham faithful
West Ham United are reportedly eyeing former Juventus manager Max Allegri as a potential replacement for Julen Lopetegui following a disappointing 3-1 loss to Leicester City in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, making his managerial debut for Leicester, secured an impressive victory at the King Power Stadium.
Despite dominating possession and registering 31 shots on goal, the Hammers failed to recover from their 5-2 drubbing by Arsenal just days earlier.
Julen Lopetegui, who succeeded David Moyes during the summer, has struggled to win over the West Ham faithful despite a significant transfer outlay.
Frustrated away fans voiced their displeasure during the Leicester match, chanting, “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” at the under-pressure Spaniard. Reports suggest Lopetegui’s position is increasingly precarious.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan is expected to hold off on making a decision until after upcoming fixtures against Wolves and Bournemouth, but the club’s hierarchy is already exploring alternatives.
Former Porto boss Sérgio Conceição is believed to be on their shortlist, while Italian outlet Calciomercato claims Allegri is also being seriously considered.
Allegri, who left Juventus at the end of last season, is reportedly seeking a Premier League opportunity. However, his salary expectations could be a stumbling block.
The 57-year-old earned €7million (£5.8m) annually in his final season at Juventus and is demanding €8million (£6.6m) for his next role.
Allegri is also rumored to be leveraging lucrative offers from Middle Eastern clubs to strengthen his negotiating position.
Despite mounting speculation, Lopetegui remains defiant. Speaking after the Leicester defeat, he stated that he is not worried about losing his job.
“The only thing I’m worried about now is to go to the training session tomorrow and to prepare the players for the next challenge,” he said after the Leicester defeat.
“I understand your question. We have a lot of matches. I am sure with this attitude we are going to be able to achieve many more points. We are very frustrated.
“At the end of the season, maybe we will be talking another way.
“There are a lot of matches in front of us, a lot of points.
“I believe in these players, I believe in the team, and I believe the second half of the season is going to be much better.”
