Liverpool have confirmed the departure of set-piece coach Aaron Briggs by mutual consent following criticism of the club’s dead-ball performance this season.
The Reds have conceded 12 goals from set pieces in 18 Premier League games while scoring just three, giving them a minus-nine differential – their worst at this stage of a top-flight campaign.
Liverpool felt an intervention was necessary, leading to an agreement over Briggs’ exit.
However, the club and head coach Arne Slot insist the decision is not a “silver bullet”, with work continuing on a collective solution.
Briggs joined Slot’s staff in the summer of 2024 and was part of the backroom team that helped Liverpool secure a record-equalling 20th league title last season.
A club statement read: “Liverpool FC can confirm Aaron Briggs has departed his role as set-piece coach of the men’s first team.
“Having joined the club in July 2024 – initially in the role of individual development coach – Briggs contributed to our Premier League title success last season as a member of Arne Slot’s backroom staff.
“He leaves with the appreciation and best wishes of everyone at the club.”
