Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains on course to complete West Ham transfer from Manchester United after late issues

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to complete his transfer from Manchester United to West Ham United after resolving late issues that had threatened to delay the move.

The transfer deal appeared to be progressing smoothly over the weekend.

Wan-Bissaka was omitted from Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City, and it was anticipated that he would travel to London the following day to finalize the move to West Ham.

However, he did not make the journey as planned due to a late obstacle related to personal terms.

Fortunately, The Athletic has reported that, following negotiations on Sunday night, an agreement on a five-year contract between Wan-Bissaka and West Ham has been reached.

With the clubs having already agreed on a £15m transfer fee, the right-back is now scheduled for his medical examination with West Ham on Monday.

The Hammers have recently released Ben Johnson and sold Thilo Kehrer, leaving them with a shortage of cover in the right-back position.

Although there were reports of interest in Newcastle United veteran Kieran Trippier, the club decided not to pursue that option.

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has made several encouraging signings as the club aims to return to European competition in 2025.

For Manchester United, selling Wan-Bissaka is a crucial step towards bringing Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

The Moroccan international is part of a dual transfer agreement with Bayern that also includes centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with both Mazraoui and de Ligt at Ajax, will be hopeful that these additions will strengthen a defensive unit that was heavily affected by injuries last season.

During Saturday’s Community Shield, Ten Hag had no defenders available on the bench, with veteran Jonny Evans starting the game and Lisandro Martinez deployed at left-back.
