Alexander Isak training alone at Real Sociedad amid Newcastle exit talk

Isak has three years left on his current deal

Alexander Isak is currently training alone at his former club Real Sociedad’s training facilities as uncertainty surrounds his future at Newcastle United, according to Sky Sports News.

Newcastle are reportedly aware of Isak’s location as he recovers from a “minor thigh injury” that has prevented him from joining the squad’s pre-season tour in Singapore.

The 25-year-old striker has told Newcastle that he wishes to explore his options during this transfer window following an informal approach from Liverpool.

Isak has been using the Basque club’s facilities, along with his personal staff, during times when they are empty to aid his recovery.

Should Isak leave Newcastle, Real Sociedad will receive 10 percent of any transfer fee above €70million (£60.5million).

Additionally, Sociedad will gain 2 percent through FIFA’s Solidarity Programme, amounting to 0.5 percent for each season he spent at the club.

Isak originally joined Real Sociedad in 2019 from Borussia Dortmund, spending three years with the La Liga side before moving to Newcastle in the summer of 2022 for a club-record fee of £63million.

Liverpool made an informal approach for Isak earlier this month before signing Hugo Ekitike, and they are believed to remain strong admirers of the Swedish forward.

Ekitike had previously been a target for Newcastle but was determined to join Liverpool.

Despite qualifying for the Champions League, Newcastle have missed out on several transfer targets this summer and have experienced a difficult pre-season, losing three consecutive games.

Following a surprising 1-0 defeat to a K League XI in South Korea on Wednesday, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe acknowledged that Isak’s future might be beyond his control amid intense speculation linking the striker to Liverpool.

Howe said of Isak’s future: “He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him.

“I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.

“We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club. My wish is that he stays and we see him playing again next year.”

Isak has three years left on his current deal.
