Anthony Elanga opens up on Alexander Isak Liverpool move
Elanga joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest in mid-July for £55m, just before tensions between Isak and Newcastle’s hierarchy became public

Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga has given his verdict after his fellow Sweden international Alexander Isak sealed a £125m move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
Elanga joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest in mid-July for £55m, just before tensions between Isak and Newcastle’s hierarchy became public.
After missing a 4-0 defeat to Celtic on July 19, Isak refused to join the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East, citing a minor injury.
Instead, he trained at the facilities of his former side Real Sociedad, without Newcastle’s permission.
Matters escalated further when, just minutes after being named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2024/25 season, the striker released an explosive statement accusing the club of breaking promises and losing his trust.
The saga ended on Monday evening when Isak completed his dream move to Anfield for a British-record fee.
Speaking ahead of Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia on Friday, Elanga told Fotbollskanalen, as translated by Sport Witness, “Isak is a Liverpool player right now.
“I have the chance to play with him in the national team. He had a good career at Newcastle, but right now he is a Liverpool player. Good luck to him.
“It has been chill[ed]. He had a contract with us and right now he is with Liverpool.
“We all think he is a very good player. We lost a good player but we also signed good players. Hopefully we can look forward and focus on this season.
“It’s his choice. He chose Liverpool. Good luck to him.
“He is a friend to me and a fantastic footballer. I can play with him in the national team and that is good as well.”
