Chelsea forward Cole Palmer provides cryptic injury update ahead of Arsenal tie

Palmer was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle from Lisandro Martinez in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United

Cole Palmer has sparked fresh speculation about his fitness ahead of Chelsea’s crucial London derby against Arsenal with a new social media post.

The Blues’ star was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle from Lisandro Martinez in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United, raising concerns over whether he would be fit for Sunday’s match.

Palmer was seen at Chelsea’s commanding 8-0 victory over FC Noah in midweek, but head coach Enzo Maresca was cautious when questioned about the England midfielder’s availability on Friday.

However, Palmer has now dropped the clearest hint yet that he could feature against the Gunners, sharing a photo on Instagram on Friday night of his leg in a “game ready” hot and cold compression wrap.

Chelsea will be eager to have Palmer available for Sunday’s high-stakes clash, given his excellent form this season.

The attacking midfielder has scored seven goals and provided five assists in the 10 Premier League matches Chelsea have played so far.

Palmer’s form has also earned him a spot in Lee Carsley’s final England squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland during the international break.

Despite fans being encouraged by Palmer’s appearance in midweek, Maresca attempted to temper expectations after the player was spotted having dinner at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea head coach refrained from ruling Cole Palmer out completely, leaving his participation in Sunday’s match uncertain.

The Italian said: “He’s better.

“He’s getting better.

“If he can walk and have dinner, that doesn’t mean he is completely fit.

“He is getting better and we still have two days to prepare for the game.

“Hopefully, we can have him for a session, at least on Saturday, and then we take a decision.”
