Casemiro hails Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Manchester United
Casemiro is impressed by all Amorim’s achievements in Portugal
Casemiro has praised the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Manchester United’s new manager.
Amorim enjoyed a successful tenure in Portugal, collecting six trophies in just five seasons with Braga and Sporting Lisbon.
Notably, he led Sporting to their first Portuguese league title in 19 years in 2021, completing a domestic double in his debut season with the club.
Amorim’s success continued last season as he guided Sporting to their second league title under his leadership.
He also leaves the club with an impressive record, having secured 11 consecutive wins in the league, capped off with a 3-0 victory over Braga on Sunday.
Casemiro, impressed by Amorim’s achievements in Portugal, believes the new manager is well-equipped to replicate that success at Old Trafford.
“We’ve not spoken, but everyone speaks so well of him,” said the Brazil midfielder.
“Above all, he is very true, very loyal. We cannot ignore how he has changed Sporting.
“We know that Sporting won many titles, he changed the club with titles, with trophies.
“He has already proved that he is a coach who has won a lot.
“I think there’s going to be a good template, that everyone wants to grow, everyone wants to learn.
“I think that’s the way to first help us grow to be at the top of the table.”
Amorim faces a daunting challenge in turning around Manchester United’s fortunes.
Despite Ruud van Nistelrooy’s successful four-match stint as caretaker boss, the team remains 13th in the Premier League.
Casemiro is confident that the talent within the squad is undeniable, but insists that it is ultimately up to the players to maintain consistent performances.
“Of course we have to keep improving,” he said.
“We have the players to do that. We have to keep growing. We’re in a good dynamic.
“Now comes the international break then the most important part of the season, when there are many matches and when all players are needed.
“We’re seeing players injured, so that’s important.
“That’s important because now, after the break, we have the most difficult stretch of the season.”
Casemiro has claimed that he enjoyed playing under Ruud van Nistelrooy and received nothing but positive feedback about the Dutchman when speaking to their mutual former club, Real Madrid.
“I honestly enjoyed it a lot,” he said.
“Everyone in Madrid that I asked said he was a great person, so I’m not surprised.
“From minute one, he spoke to us and told us to enjoy it, always to be happy, to take advantage of the moment to play for Manchester United.
“We often forget that, don’t we?
“He was a legend at Manchester United.
“He was a legend at Madrid.
“He is a legend of No 9. It was a pleasure.
“It was a pleasure to share that moment with him.
“We do not know if he will stay or not, but it was a pleasure to share the dressing room with him.”
