Celta Vigo are reportedly targeting a loan move for Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic before the upcoming transfer deadline.
The 19-year-old Spaniard joined Liverpool from Celta Vigo’s academy in 2020.
Bajcetic initially linked up with Liverpool’s under-18s, but his potential saw him quickly promoted to the first team.
He made his Premier League debut in August 2022 and enjoyed a breakthrough 2022-23 season, making 11 league appearances and featuring four times in the Champions League.
Unfortunately, his progress was halted by a season-ending injury in March.
Since then, Bajcetic has managed just three more appearances for Liverpool, including a solitary Premier League outing, as he continued to struggle with injuries.
Now, in an effort to rejuvenate his career, Galician newspaper Faro de Vigo reports that Celta Vigo are keen to bring Bajcetic back on loan for the 2023-24 season.
However, the deal faces some hurdles. Celta Vigo would first need to offload several players to accommodate Bajcetic and, crucially, they must agree to play him in his preferred central midfield role rather than in defence.
Despite progressing through Celta Vigo’s academy, Bajcetic never made a senior appearance for the club before his move to Liverpool.
In other news, Liverpool under-21 forward Harvey Blair is reportedly close to completing a £300,000 transfer to Championship newcomers Portsmouth.
According to The Athletic, the 20-year-old has been granted permission by Liverpool to negotiate personal terms with John Mousinho’s side.
Blair, who joined Liverpool from Manchester United’s academy, was a key player during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States this summer.
Blair’s only competitive appearance for Liverpool’s senior team came in a League Cup tie against Preston North End in October 2021.
