Celtic are weighing up a January move to bring Kieran Tierney back to Scotland, as the Arsenal defender’s future at the Emirates remains uncertain.
The left-back has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates, having spent last season on loan at Spanish side Real Sociedad.
With his contract set to expire in the summer, Arsenal are not expected to exercise an option to extend his deal, leaving Tierney to explore other options.
The Scottish champions are now exploring the possibility of a pre-contract agreement, although they also hope to secure a loan deal for the player in January, according to The Sun.
The main obstacle could be Tierney’s wages, with other clubs, including Newcastle, also showing interest.
However, Celtic are currently in pole position to sign the 27-year-old.
Celtic’s current left-back, Greg Taylor, has yet to agree on a new contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer.
It was under Brendan Rodgers, now in his second stint at Celtic, that Tierney first gained attention, leading to interest from Premier League clubs before his eventual move to Arsenal in 2019 for £25million.
Although no longer a regular starter at Arsenal, Tierney was once a fixture in the team. During his time in North London, he made 125 appearances for the Gunners.
Tierney has previously kept the door open to a return to Celtic, where he won numerous honours.
Speaking on The Currie Club podcast, he said: “I think when a player who loves the club leaves, there’s always that, ‘what if he comes back’, and you can’t rule anything out.
“I’m always going to love Celtic, I’m always going to support Celtic, so you never know in football.”
