The wife of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, Valentina Cervantes, has confirmed that the couple is going through a divorce.
This news may shed light on Fernandez’s recent underwhelming performances for the Blues.
Valentina announced their separation on social media, emphasising their commitment to ensuring a smooth and peaceful process for their two children.
On Instagram, Cervantes said: “Enzo and I have decided to take some distance from each other today.
“But we will always be family, and we will support each other in everything.
“Because there are two children involved who need a lot of love from us.
“I know the person Enzo is and what an excellent father he is, as well as the heart he has.
“And that is enough for me.
“Please don’t try to create conflicts where there are none.”
In addition to his personal challenges, Fernandez has recently faced a driving ban, which appears to be impacting his on-field performance.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has shown a lack of confidence in the Argentine midfielder, benching him for the last two Premier League matches.
Despite these difficulties, Fernandez will be eager to return to the pitch and help his team bounce back from their Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of Newcastle on Wednesday.
Chelsea are set to face Manchester United on Sunday, and they will need all their players performing at their best to overcome a Red Devils side rejuvenated by the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim coach.
