Former Premier League referee David Coote decides not to appeal his sacking
Coote was sacked earlier this month following a "thorough investigation" into his conduct by the refereeing body
David Coote, the former Premier League referee, has chosen not to appeal his dismissal from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
Coote was sacked earlier this month following a “thorough investigation” into his conduct by the refereeing body.
Although he had the right to appeal, sources have told BBC Sport that Coote has chosen not to pursue that option.
Coote was initially suspended by the PGMOL on November 11 pending a full investigation, after a video surfaced allegedly showing him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and the club’s former manager, Jurgen Klopp.
Two days later, a further investigation was launched after The Sun published photos reportedly taken during this summer’s European Championship.
The images allegedly show Coote sniffing a white powder through a rolled-up US banknote.
The PGMOL stated that Coote’s actions had made his position “untenable.”
Despite his dismissal, the organisation has continued to offer support to Coote, previously stating that it is “committed to his welfare.”
He is also under investigation by both the Football Association and UEFA over his conduct.
