Dominic Solanke set to undergo medical at Tottenham

Dominic Solanke is on the verge of completing a move to Tottenham Hotspur, with the striker set to undergo a medical after a £65 million deal was agreed with Bournemouth, according to The Athletic.

Solanke is anticipated to sign a six-year contract with the north London club, marking a significant addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The forward has been eager to join Spurs, and he was identified as Postecoglou’s top transfer target this summer.

It was earlier reported that Bournemouth had agreed to sell Solanke for a club-record fee, with talks ongoing to finalize the deal.

Although Solanke is currently under contract with Bournemouth until 2029, his contract reportedly includes a £65 million release clause that certain clubs can trigger.

Tottenham have been in search of a senior striker since Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer.

Postecoglou is keen to bring in a No. 9 that aligns with his tactical approach, and Solanke’s profile fits the bill.

“What’s important is the type of striker we get,” Postecoglou said during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Japan.

“You know we play a certain way.

“We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it’s going be a striker that fits that mould.

“It’s still the area of the park we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us.”

Tottenham forward Richarlison ruled out a summer move to the Saudi Pro League in an interview with ESPN Brasil on Thursday.

“The money is big but my dream is bigger,” said the Brazilian, who has three years remaining on his Spurs contract.

Dominic Solanke started his career at Chelsea before joining Liverpool in 2017 on a free transfer.

He made the move to Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee in 2019.

Liverpool retained a 20% sell-on clause from the deal and could potentially receive up to £9 million if Tottenham triggers his release clause.

Tottenham have made two signings this summer: 18-year-old midfielders Archie Gray from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården.

Additionally, they have agreed to sign South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk, who will join the squad in January.

Solanke was not selected for England’s European Championship squad, with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins chosen as back-ups to Harry Kane.

Tottenham will kick off their 2024-25 Premier League campaign with an away match against newly-promoted Leicester City on August 19.
