Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak situation is “far from ideal” amid Liverpool interest
Isak did not join his teammates on the pre-season tour to Asia

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has provided a fresh update on Liverpool target Alexander Isak, describing the current situation as “far from ideal” and “quite complex.”
The Reds made an initial official bid – believed to be a £110million flat offer – for the Sweden international on Friday, but Newcastle rejected it.
It is now understood that Liverpool do not intend to submit a second bid and are prepared to end talks, given the swift response from the Magpies.
However, Newcastle find themselves in a difficult position, as Isak has made it clear he wants to explore opportunities to leave the club and is reportedly training with his former team, Real Sociedad.
Isak did not join his teammates on the pre-season tour to Asia, with his absence initially attributed to a minor thigh issue. It later emerged, however, that he had requested to leave the club amid Liverpool’s interest.
Newcastle have maintained throughout the summer that Isak is not for sale, setting an asking price of £150million.
That stance would need to change for Liverpool to consider making another offer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have been preparing for their upcoming pre-season fixture against Tottenham in South Korea.
Howe addressed Isak’s future during a press conference on Saturday morning.
“I was made aware of a bid yesterday and that bid was turned down, all before I’d even heard about it,” Howe said.
“People back in England are dealing with the situation. I don’t know what happens next.
“From our perceptive, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”
Isak has been training in Spain with Real Sociedad as he works to stay sharp and maintain his fitness ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe commented on the situation, saying, “I know where he is, really, through the media. From that perspective, it’s difficult for me to go into any kind of detail.
“The situation is far from ideal and quite complex.”
