Liverpool have agreed a £15million deal to sell midfielder Tyler Morton to French club Lyon, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Ligue 1 side made Morton one of their primary targets this summer and negotiations have now reached the final stages.
The 22-year-old is expected to complete the move soon, with the overall package including achievable add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause.
Several clubs, including Championship side Ipswich Town, showed interest in signing Morton, who played a key role in helping England retain the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in June.
However, none matched Lyon’s offer, despite the French club’s recent financial difficulties.
Lyon’s financial issues contributed to their relegation to Ligue 2 in June, even after finishing sixth in Ligue 1 last season and qualifying for the Europa League.
The club successfully appealed the relegation decision the following month.
Morton, a product of Liverpool’s Academy, made his first-team breakthrough during a League Cup win at Norwich City in September 2021.
He went on to start matches in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup that season.
He then had successful season-long loan spells at Blackburn Rovers (2022/23) and Hull City (2023/24) before returning to Liverpool last term.
However, Morton only made five appearances and did not feature in the Premier League as Liverpool secured a record-equalling 20th title.
A shoulder injury sidelined Morton from competitive matchday squads since January, although he has participated regularly in pre-season training under manager Arne Slot.
Morton’s transfer will increase Liverpool’s potential summer transfer income to £145million, following the previous sales of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhín Kelleher, Nat Phillips, Jarell Quansah, and Luis Díaz.
