We can solve this by calling ‘Jurgen Klopp’ – Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler on Anfield atmosphere
The Reds came from behind to beat Brighton for the second time this week
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler admitted that his team struggled to handle the intense Anfield atmosphere after earlier suggesting they should have “easily” beaten Liverpool.
The Reds staged a second-half comeback, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scoring within three minutes to secure a memorable 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon, pushing Liverpool two points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Brighton controlled much of the first half and were unlucky not to extend their lead after Ferdi Kadioglu’s powerful strike in the 14th minute put them ahead.
However, the visitors couldn’t sustain their momentum and ultimately suffered their second defeat to Liverpool in just 72 hours.
“In the end football is always about results,” said Fabian Hurzeler.
“We need results for the process and we have to understand how to get results.
“On the other side of that, the performance was good enough to win this game easily.
“Especially in the first half, there were a lot of moments where we should score the second and the third goal and maybe the game could be completely different.
“In the second half there were two or three moments when we weren’t precise enough, we lost 50-50 duels and got a little bit affected maybe by the atmosphere.
“These things are so important to experience and to learn to get the result you deserve in the end.”
Asked about how Brighton could address the problem of the Anfield crowd, Hurzeler added: “We can solve this by calling Jurgen (Klopp) and asking him!
“It’s a tough moment, I’d only experienced it on television so far but now I’ve experienced it for myself. These are the small details.
“Being loud, great atmosphere, maybe a wild environment, in exactly those moments you need to stay calm and still play out from the back.
“They were the solutions and we couldn’t find them in the second half.
“Then the dominance from Liverpool was getting bigger and bigger and they had more crosses from outside the box.
“They didn’t have big chances, in general we defended quite good, but we have to take responsibility that we weren’t that precise playing with the courage we did in the first half.”
