Brentford have secured the signing of winger Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool in a deal worth £27.5 million, including add-ons.
The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig and Hull City, has agreed to a five-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Liverpool will receive an initial fee of £22.5 million and have negotiated a 17.5% sell-on clause.
Fulham, the club that sold Portuguese winger Carvalho to Liverpool in 2022, will receive 20% of the profit from his transfer to Brentford.
Brentford fended off competition from Southampton, who had a £15 million bid for Carvalho turned down by Liverpool.
Carvalho moved to Liverpool from Fulham in July 2022 and made a notable impact during his time with the Reds, scoring three goals in 21 competitive appearances.
The 21-year-old made his debut for Liverpool as a substitute in the 2022 FA Community Shield victory over Manchester City.
He marked his first goal for the club with a strike in the 9-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth at Anfield the following month and added a dramatic 98th-minute winner against Newcastle United just days later.
During the 2023-24 season, Carvalho was loaned out to RB Leipzig and Hull City before returning to Liverpool this summer, where he featured regularly in pre-season fixtures.
Fabio Carvalho now embarks on a new chapter with Brentford under the management of Thomas Frank.
Brentford will kick off their Premier League campaign this Sunday against Crystal Palace.
On the signing, Brentford head coach Frank said: “Fábio is a player with a lot of qualities.
“He can play in all of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1.
“His best position is probably as a no.10 or coming in from the left.
“Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball: he can go past players, slide a pass, create chances and get on the end of chances.
“He’s a type of player that we don’t have many of in the squad so he will add that something extra for us.
“His ability and mentality to work hard in the pressure is also very, very good.
“That’s along with him ticking all the boxes from a cultural perspective and being the right character.
“So we’re very pleased to see him come in and push the team forward.”
