Fenerbahce provide update after Jose Mourinho undergoes surgery

Mourinho has faced a challenging debut season at the helm of the Istanbul club

Jose Mourinho has successfully undergone gallbladder surgery and is in “good health,” Turkish side Fenerbahce confirmed on Monday.

Following his team’s final match of 2024 – a 1-1 draw, which was followed by yet another fiery rant from the Portuguese coach – Mourinho returned to his home country for the procedure.

He has since assured that he will return to Turkey soon to continue working with his players.

Mourinho has faced a challenging debut season at the helm of the Istanbul club.

Fenerbahce has won just one of their last four matches, with the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager frequently expressing frustration with his players and the level of officiating in Turkey.

Currently, Fenerbahce find themselves eight points behind leaders and reigning champions Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.

The team will resume their campaign with a match against Hatayspor on January 5, with Mourinho expected to be back on the touchline for the fixture.

“Mourinho had a successful gallbladder operation in his country Portugal today. We wish our coach, who is in very good health, a speedy recovery,” an update from the Super Lig side read.
