The Premier League season is underway, with Liverpool kicking off their title defence in style after a dramatic 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield last Friday evening.
Arne Slot’s side will have enjoyed a 10-day break by the time they travel to face Newcastle United on Monday night.
The clash at St James’ Park is expected to be played in a hostile atmosphere, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Newcastle’s wantaway striker, Alexander Isak, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
However, the Reds boss may have to contend with several absentees for the trip to the North East.
One confirmed absentee is Jeremie Frimpong, one of Liverpool’s four new summer signings to start against Bournemouth.
The right-back was forced off after an hour with a hamstring problem and is now expected to remain sidelined until after the upcoming international break.
There is some positive news, though, as Ryan Gravenberch is available again after serving a one-match Premier League suspension last week.
The midfielder was sent off in Liverpool’s final game of last season at home to Crystal Palace.
Conor Bradley, meanwhile, has not featured since the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East due to a minor injury.
He only returned to team training on Thursday and faces a race against time to prove his fitness for Monday’s match.
Joe Gomez, who made a late cameo against Bournemouth, missed parts of training this week but is expected to be in contention.
Kostas Tsimikas, on the other hand, was left out of the Wembley clash amid ongoing transfer interest in his services.
The Greece international could once again find himself omitted from the squad.
In addition, with RB Leipzig stepping up their pursuit of Harvey Elliott, the 22-year-old’s involvement on Monday is also in doubt.
