Man United set to consider offers for Harry Maguire in January

Manchester United are reportedly open to considering offers for defender Harry Maguire in the January transfer window, with the England international potentially available for as little as £10million.

Maguire, who has struggled to secure a regular starting role under Erik ten Hag over the last two seasons, has been frequently linked with a departure from Old Trafford.

According to The Daily Star, the 31-year-old’s valuation has dropped significantly from the £30million mark that was being discussed just a year ago, underlining how far his stock has fallen at the club.

Despite losing the captaincy, Maguire clawed his way back into Ten Hag’s plans last season, making 18 Premier League starts during an injury crisis.

This season, however, his involvement has been limited, with the defender making only three starts in the Premier League and two in domestic cup competitions.

United’s summer signing of Matthijs de Ligt for £42million has further complicated Maguire’s prospects, with the Dutchman now established as the first-choice partner for Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the defence.

Maguire’s struggles aren’t solely down to competition for places. His proposed move to West Ham fell through last year, and injuries have continued to hamper his career.

Last season, he suffered groin and muscle injuries, which contributed to him missing out on England’s Euro 2024 squad.

More recently, a foot injury forced Maguire to miss United’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, raising further concerns about his fitness.

As he works to recover from his latest setback, Maguire risks slipping further down Ten Hag’s pecking order.

With United keen to trim their squad and reduce wages, his future at Old Trafford looks increasingly uncertain.

Since joining United from Leicester City for £80 million in 2019 – a world record fee for a defender at the time – Maguire has captained the side and made 215 appearances.

While he has often faced criticism for his defensive performances, Maguire recently showed resilience, scoring a late equalizer in a 3-3 draw against FC Porto.

However, the disruption caused by his current injury may stall the momentum he had started to build, having been selected in United’s last Premier League game against Aston Villa.
