Hugo Ekitike has touched down in London to undergo his medical ahead of a potential £79million move to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has agreed a six-year contract with the club.
Provided the medical goes smoothly, Ekitike will then travel from London to join up with Liverpool’s squad on their pre-season tour in the Far East.
Liverpool and Frankfurt have reached an agreement in principle on a £79million (€91.5 million) deal for Ekitike.
The deal consists of a guaranteed initial fee of £69million (€80million), with an additional £10million (€12.5million) in add-ons.
These add-ons are contingent on both the player’s and the club’s success to be fully activated.
Liverpool initiated their pursuit of Ekitike earlier this week after being informed that Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is not available for transfer.
Ekitike is open to a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool being his preferred destination, especially after Newcastle rejected an offer for the player.
The 23-year-old was an unused substitute during his team’s pre-season match against FSV Frankfurt on Saturday.
Following the game, Frankfurt’s manager described Ekitike’s potential departure as “a bitter loss,” according to Sky Germany.
Last season, Ekitike scored 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in Frankfurt’s qualification for the Champions League.
Liverpool have already demonstrated their readiness to spend big this summer, breaking the British transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz for £116million.
Hugo Ekitike could make his unofficial Liverpool debut against AC Milan this Saturday.
