Hugo Ekitike has undergone successful surgery on a ruptured Achilles, with the Liverpool striker now beginning a lengthy recovery.
The 23-year-old is expected to miss the rest of 2026 after sustaining the injury against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. The damage occurred during a first-half sprint in the 2-0 defeat at Anfield.
Ekitike shared updates on Instagram from hospital and at home, writing: “I’m out of here… I’ll be back soon.” He is currently using a scooter to aid mobility during the early stages of recovery.
Liverpool’s medical staff will oversee his rehabilitation, with an initial return timeframe of nine to 12 months.
Arne Slot has backed the forward to recover strongly, expressing confidence he will “come back even stronger.”
“Your first thoughts are with him, being out for such a long time, missing out on so many special moments,” Slot told reporters last week.
“But he’s not the first or the last player who has experienced something like this at the start of his career.
“There are so many examples of players that came back even stronger and that’s the challenge he has now.
“I’m 100 percent sure he will be one of those that in 10, 15 years’ time will say maybe his injury even helped him to become stronger, to become even more ready to perform at an even higher level than he did before.”
