Jose Mourinho eyes national ream role amid Fenerbahce’s struggles
Mourinho has faced criticism for his controversial comments on the state of Turkish football amid his team’s inconsistent form
Jose Mourinho has revealed his ambitions to make an “incredible” move into national team management, despite Fenerbahce’s faltering title bid in the Turkish Super Lig.
After being dismissed by AS Roma in January 2024, Mourinho returned to management this summer, taking on a fresh challenge with Fenerbahce.
However, his tenure in Turkey has been far from smooth, with Fenerbahce trailing league leaders Galatasaray by eight points after 16 matches.
The club also finds itself 21st in the Europa League standings, and Mourinho has faced criticism for his controversial comments on the state of Turkish football amid his team’s inconsistent form.
Amid these struggles, the legendary manager has acknowledged his desire to take charge of a national team in the future.
Mourinho has long been linked with managing his native Portugal, and he expressed his intent to compete in major international tournaments like the European Championship and World Cup.
While his focus remains on his current role, Jose Mourinho also revealed that he would “certainly” consider a return to Serie A, though he has not watched Roma play since departing the club.
In an interview with Corriere Dello Sport, the 61-year-old said: “I’ve never watched Roma play again, but I’ve watched Inter.
“I want to play a European Championship or a World Cup and unite a country around a team, as I have already done many times with the clubs.
“I want to do it for football and what this sport represents. It will be incredible.”
